Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is in talks with at least two Indian Aviation majors, including Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) to set up a Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) Facility in India for widebody aircraft, while also having long-term MRO Plans in India. IAI had earlier signed an MoU with HAL to convert 767 Passenger Aircraft into Military Air-to-Air Refueling Platforms for the Indian Air Force. HAL would have to convert pre-owned civil aircraft into Air-Refuelling Aircraft with cargo and transport capabilities under this pact. The MoU also included potential for P2F conversion works.


MRSAM was developed jointly by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) at Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) as part of a commitment to ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’. In 2023, the IndianNavy successfully undertook MRSAM firing from INS Visakhapatnam validating capability to engage Anti-Ship Missiles. In September 2021, the Indian Air Force received the first deliverable Firing Unit of the MRSAM System. The Cutting-Edge Missile System can hit multiple targets at a range of 70 kilometres. Combat Management System (CMS), Mobile Launcher Systems (MLS), Advanced Long Range Radar, Mobile Power System (MPS), Radar Power System (RPS), Reloader Vehicle (RV), and Field Service Vehicle comprise the Missile System, which is powered by an indigenously developed rocket motor and control system (FSV).


Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) also supplies Long-Range Loitering Munitions. IAI provides a wide range of solutions and services for Aerial Defence from Special Mission Aircraft and Advanced Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to Precision Guided Munitions, Multi-Layered Missile Defence, Upgrades for Military Aircraft and Helicopters, and sophisticated C4I, ISTAR and Navigation Systems. IAI provides customers with tailor-made, Cutting-Edge Solutions including Satellites, UAVs, Missiles, Loitering Munitions, Intelligence Solutions, Weapon Systems, Air Defence Systems, Robotic Systems, Radars, Business Jets, Aerostructures, and more.

IAI’s Advanced Tactical Loitering-Munitions are designed for both Ground and Naval Units, the Mini Harpy, the Rotem, HAROP and the LORA Weapon as well. In addition, IAI advanced GEO Mini Communication Satellite. IAI’s Rampage - supersonic, long-range accurate Air-Ground Assault Rocket for the annihilation of high-quality targets. The Scorpius G (Ground) is a Ground-Based EW System designed to detect and disrupt ground- and airborne threats.  Aerial Refueling Tanker for the supply of Aerial Refueling and Strategic Transport Aircraft as well.


Robust and combat proven, with hundreds of thousands of operational flight hours, IAI’s Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Systems allow complex Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) over any terrain, in any weather conditions. The multiple combat-proven operational configurations also include Maritime Patrol and Persistent Surveillance.


Heron MK II Advanced Long Endurance UAV
The Heron MK II, a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV, represents an enhanced version of the Heron UAV. This model is employed by the Israeli Air Force and is operational with over 20 other entities globally. Incorporating the most sophisticated technologies devised by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to date, the Heron MK II stands as a strategic and versatile aircraft, adept at carrying various payloads concurrently. Equipped with an Aviation-Certified Engine, the Heron can ascend to altitudes exceeding 35,000 feet and achieve a top speed of 150 knots, with an endurance of up to 45 continuous hours. The advancements in manufacturing technologies have endowed the Heron MK II with a broader and more robust body structure. This enhancement not only facilitates Multi-Payload Missions but also ensures quick and effortless maintenance.


The Heron MK II paves the way for new configurations, such as Long-Range, Deep Observation Sensors. It can support a broad spectrum of additional payloads, including Electo-Optics, Radars, ELINT, COMINT, ESM, Communication Relay, and Specialized Missions. A particularly notable feature of the Heron MK II is its Stand-Off Capability. This function allows for the gathering of intelligence from tens of kms away, without the need to cross Borders, made possible by its capacity to carry larger and improved Sensors.

This also showed the commitment to the strong partnership between IAI and DRDO in developing and supporting Advanced Systems for the Indian Armed Forces. ASI trades in Indian Rupees and is the sole authorized OEM’s Technical Representative for the entire Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) System. BEL & IAI Form Joint Venture Company
Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), recently announced the establishment of a Joint Venture Company (JVC), which has been incorporated in the name of BEL IAI AeroSystems Private Ltd. The JVC with its registered office in Delhi shall be the single point of contact (SPOC)  for extending long-term product support to the Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) Systems of India’s Defence Forces.


The Partnership marks another significant step in cementing the relationship between the two companies that have a long history of association for Strategic Programmes. BEL and IAI are collaborating in several Joint Programmes for the Tri-Services. The JVC has been set up for providing life-cycle support, both technical and maintenance related, for MRSAM Air Defence Systems of the country.


MRSAM is an advanced, path-breaking Air and Missile Defence System that provides protection against a variety of aerial threats. Jointly developed by IAI and DRDO for India’s Defence Forces and is currently used by the Indian Air Force, Indian Army, Indian Navy and also Israeli Defence Forces.


The  formation of the JVC - BEL IAI AeroSystems Private Ltd., is in line with the Indian Government’s Vision of AtmaNirbhar Bharat. The JVC will leverage the capabilities of both IAI and BEL.


BEL & IAI MoU to Tap Opportunities in Short-Range Air Defence Systems’ Domain
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), had earlier inked an MoU for co-operation in addressing India’s requirements in the domain of Short-Range Air Defence Systems. The MoU was signed by K. V. Suresh Kumar, Director (Marketing), BEL, and Avi Elisha, VP and General Manager, Missile Systems Division, IAI, in the presence of CMD, BEL, in Bengaluru on 31st August 2023. The Partnership marked yet another significant step towards cementing the synergy between the two companies which have a long history of association. BEL and IAI are engaged in several Joint Development / Production / Product Support Programmes for the Indian Defence Forces.


Boaz Levy, IAI's President and CEO, had then said: “BEL and IAI have a successful Partnership in the field of Air Defence in India. IAI Acquired India's HELA Systems to Provide Full Product Support for IAI-ELTA Systems in India
IAI had earlier acquired HELA Systems Pvt. Ltd., an ‘Indian subsidiary’ of ELTA Systems Ltd. IAI’s investment in Aerospace Services India is a strong demonstration of IAI's support for the Indian Government’s AtmaNirbhar Bharat (Make in India) Vision. This deal also showed IAI’s commitment to its strong partnership with India’s DRDO in developing and supporting Advanced Systems for India’s Armed Forces.


HELA provides full Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Product Support for ELTA Systems, as well as Testing and Technical Services including Annual Maintenance Contracts and supply of Spares to Indian Defence customers.

The company has a large facility in Hyderabad’s fast-growing industrial belt. HELA’s management and technical team comprise Radio Frequency and Microwave Specialists, familiar with cutting-edge technologies and working on Futuristic Military Applications. IAI MoU With Elcom Systems for Indian UAVs Upgrade & MRO
IAI had earlier inked an MoU with Elcom Systems to undertake Upgrades for the IAI UAVs in service in India and undertake MRO Activities. IAI signed the MoU to work collaboratively on MRO and Upgrades of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) with Indian Company, Elcom Systems. India is a Strategic Partner for Israel and IAI. IAI had previously partnered with Elcom Systems to work together on MRO of the Heron UAVs and for the Maintenance of Advanced Heron MKII UAVs that IAI provided to the Military Forces in India.

Sagar Defence MoU with IAI to Develop Autonomous Weaponised Boat Swarms for Indian Navy
Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt. Ltd. and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop Autonomous Weaponized Boat Swarms for the Indian Navy. The MoU was signed to collaborate and develop Indian Design, Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) for India and the global market. In January 2023, Sagar Defence Engineering had achieved the contract of Indian Navy for their 50th SPRINT Contract for Autonomous Weaponized Boat Swarms for the Indian Navy. Capt. Nikunj Parashar, MD & Founder Sagar Defence Engineering said, “We are excited to join hands with Israel Aerospace Industries for the Indian Navy's iDEX-DIO (DISC 7) SPRINT initiative to showcase our technology & capabilities regarding Autonomous Weaponized Boat Swarms.”
