The Singapore Air Show 2020 was held at Changi Exhibition Centre from 11th to 16th February 2020, with attendance from high-level Military Delegations including India’s Air Chief, Senior Government Officials and leading industry players, featured exhibitors from over 930 companies from above 45 countries. The Singapore Air Show 2020 was held at Changi Exhibition Centre from 11th to 16th February 2020, with attendance from high-level Military Delegations including India’s Air Chief, Senior Government Officials and leading industry players, featured exhibitors from over 930 companies from above 45 countries. The Singapore Air Show had major participants in the Civil and Military Flying and Static Aircraft Displays.


Every two years, high-level Government and Military Delegations, as well as senior corporate executives around the world attend the Singapore Air Show to forge Partnerships and seal deals in this region. As Asia's largest Air Show, this is the place to be for leading Aerospace companies and budding players eager to make their mark in the International Aerospace and Defence market.


Aerospace & Defence Industries at Singapore
Singapore Air Show 2020 was officially opened on 11th February by Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport, Khaw Boon Wan and Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen at Changi Exhibition Centre, Singapore, despite the Corona Virus threat. The biennial event, which was held from 11th to 16th February 2020, had about 30,000 trade visitors and over 930 participating companies from more than 45 countries.


“The strong show of support among some of the world’s top Global Aerospace and Defence Companies is a testimony of the importance and relevance of the Singapore Air Show as a prime gateway to Asia’s buoyant markets,” said Leck Chet Lam, Managing Director, Experia Events Pte Ltd, organiser of Singapore Air Show 2020.
Singapore Air Show 2020 Flies Above Expectations, Despite Corona Fears.


Over the course of the week, the 7th Edition of Singapore Air Show 2020 welcomed close to 30,000 trade visitors from more than 110 countries and over 60,000 public visitors. Over the two public days on 15th & 16th February, visitors enjoyed a total of four display performances from three countries that included the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s Aerial Display Team consisting of an F-15SG Fighter Jet and two AH-64D Attack Helicopters, China’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force Aerobatics Team Ba Yi, the United States Marine Corps’ F-35B Joint Strike Fighter, and the United States Pacific Air Forces’ F-22 Raptor. The United States Air Force’s B-52 Stratofortress also performed a flyover on 15th February.


“Despite current global concerns surrounding COVID-19, we are encouraged with solid support from over 930 participating countries from more than 45 countries. The presence of over 90% of participating companies at Singapore Air Show 2020 is a clear testimony of the platform’s strategic relevance in the Global Aviation and Defence Eco-system,” said Leck Chet Lam.


“I am confident we will emerge even stronger and continue to deliver a more robust Singapore Air Show 2022 that facilitates the transformation and growth of Asia’s Aviation and Defence Industries,” he added. The 8th Edition of Singapore Air Show 2022 will be held from 15th to 20th February 2022.


The biennial Singapore Air Show is Asia’s largest and most influential International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition for stakeholders to forge strategic alliances, collaborate for change to shape the future of the Global Aviation Industry.
The trade segment of the Singapore Air Show 2020 concluded on an optimistic note with more than two-thirds of its key exhibitors already committing to participate in the eighth edition, from 15th to 20th February 2022, at Changi Exhibition Centre. Returning exhibitors will include Airbus, Boeing, Changi Airport Group, Diehl Defence, Elbit, Embraer, Hensoldt, Israel Aerospace Industries, L3Harris, Lufthansa Technik, Pratt & Whitney, Rafael & ST Engineering.


Kallman Worldwide, who organises the US presence at the world’s most influential Aerospace and Defence events, was the first to commit to returning with the USA Partnership Pavilion in 2022. Kallman President & CEO Tom Kallman said: “The success of the US Pavilion’s 110 companies this year inspired Kallman Worldwide to be the first to sign up for 2022. The US participation was far-and-away the largest international group in the show and our Government Officials, Military Delegations, and Industry Partners all reported that their (G2G, G2B, and B2B) meetings were first class. As it does, the Singapore Air Show delivered high-ranking decision makers and influencers from around the entire region. The USA Partnership Pavilion will build on the success of 2020 and return strong again in 2022!” Other returning Country Pavilions for Singapore Air Show 2022 include Australia, Canada, Germany, Malaysia and Switzerland. Over the four trade days, Singapore Air Show 2020 witnessed announcements in new areas of development including JTC’s signings with Aerospace companies to bring in $500 Million worth of new investments that will expand the Aerospace Eco-System and Supplier Networks; CAAS’ initiative with Airbus to improve Regional Connectivity in Urban Air Mobility and ST Engineering’s five-year contract to provide Nacelle Maintenance Services to Qantas Airways’ Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A330 Fleet; Showcase of new products and innovation such as Dassault’s Falcon 6X Cabin and Airbus unveiling its blended-wing body Technology Demonstrator, which could potentially provide up to 20% lower fuel consumption.

Close to 30,000 trade attendees from more than 110 countries convened at Singapore Air Show 2020, where over 800 Delegation Meetings were concluded to establish networks and connect business opportunities around the world.


Innovation Drives Transformation of Global Aviation Industry
New concepts and breakthrough ideas to transform the future saw a total of 32 companies from eight countries pitched on topics in Digital Solutions, Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security, Automation and Smart Transport, Smart Manufacturing and Marketplace and Sustainability and Energy. The two days of pitching and discussions saw Lumitics, MicroSec, SenseGiz, CargoAI.co and Transkinect emerge as winning teams for their Innovative Solutions in their respective categories that are deemed to potentially transform the Aviation Industry. All winning participants received three months of co-working space at BLOCK71 Singapore.


During the Education Days on 13th and 14th Februaty 2020, Singapore Air Show Aero Campus welcomed almost 1,000 University undergraduates, full-time National Servicemen and jobseekers in Singapore for introduction to careers in the Aviation Sector, as well as to meet with potential employers such as ATR, Boeing, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce and SIA Engineering Company. This underscored the importance of Singapore Air Show in providing a platform for developing the talent pipeline to ensure the flow of new talents with relevant skills that would help the Aviation Sector progress into the next era.

Aerial Display Teams Perform at Singapore Air Show 2020
This year’s Singapore Air Show saw a total of four Flying Display performances from three countries. A key highlight of the biennial Singapore Air Show, these Flying Display Teams once again presented spectacular showcases to over 30,000 trade attendees and 60,000 public day visitors.


Flying for the first time in Singapore were China’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force Aerobatics Team Ba Yi, the United States Marine Corps’ F-35B Joint Strike Fighter, and the United States Pacific Air Forces’ F-22 Raptor.
Returning to Singapore Air Show 2020 was the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s Integrated Aerial Display Team of an F-15SG Fighter Jet and two AH-64D Attack Helicopters. The United States Air Force’s B-52 Stratofortress also performed a flyover.


The Flying Display at the Singapore Air Show is always a highlight for all visitors. This year’s line-up of both familiar favourites and new teams and aircraft flying for the first time in the Aerial Segment of Singapore Air Show 2020 heightened anticipation and excitement with another impressive showcase.


Asia’s Defence Aviation Show
Singapore Air Show 2020 is one of Asia’s largest and most influential International Aerospace & Defence Exhibitions for stakeholders to forge strategic alliances and collaborate for change to shape the future of the Global Aviation Industry.  


Forecast International’s “Global Defence Spending Annual Snapshot” 2019 Report indicates that global spending through 2023 will rise at a compounded annual growth rate of 3.4%. The report also indicates that the Asia-Pacific Region will remain significant in the Global Defence Arena; with countries like China, Japan, Vietnam and India focusing on increasing and improving their Air-Sea Military Capabilities. As Asia accounts for more than a fifth of the Global Defence Budget with growth expectations forecasted, robust investments are anticipated as the region, which remains a Strategic Hub in the Global Defence Supply Chain. In line with the market’s expected growth, the Singapore Air Show will continue to play an important role as the premier platform, which brings together key decision makers in the Eco-System, facilitates the participation of major industry players and VIP Delegations over the years, and also creates Networking and Partnership opportunities in Asia’s Aerospace and Defence Eco-System.

Business Forums tackled Next Generation MRO in a Digital World and the effects of new OEM business models on Suppliers and Manufacturers, while What’s Next @ Singapore Air Show, a platform for Start-Ups to take their businesses to the next level, connecting them with their potential customers and product End-Users. The inaugural Lindbergh Innovation Forum in Partnership with the Lindbergh Foundation, which featured inspiring and provocative talks by entrepreneurs and inventors who discussed breakthrough innovations and leading-edge concepts in Aviation that are shaping the Future of Flight.


Developing the Talent Pipeline
Singapore Air Show 2020 supported the Next-Generation of Aviation talent through programmes such as Aero Campus and the Inaugural Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Space Camp Challenge 2020. These were designed to encourage more young innovators to come to know the astronomical potential of the Aviation Industry, be inspired by pioneers such as Alfred Worden to take up interests in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and bring to life the Future of Flight. In 2020, the Air Show’s Education Day hosted students to talks and experiential visits, and presented exhibits to provide them with insights to careers in the Aerospace, Aviation and Defence Sectors.

At Singapore Air Show 2020, exhibitors led the charge on incorporating environmentally friendly technologies into their products and services, whether through the use of Electric or Hybrid Engines, or through streamlining their manufacturing processes to reduce the resource input required.

Symphony in the Sky
Singapore Air Show 2020 still attracted nearly 60,000 visitors for the public day weekend to marvel at the spectacular Aerial Display performances and the latest Commercial and Military Aircraft. Visitors to the Air Show were treated to the exhilarating Aerobatics of the Flying Display performances including those by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF)’s integrated aerial display team, comprising of an F-15SG,, along with two F-16C Fighter Jets. They perform 15 exciting manoeuvres, showcasing the high degree of precision and coordination required between the three aircraft. Their stunning routine included six Integrated Manoeuvres performed for the public, such as the 3-Ship Dedication Pass and the Golden Salute. Other breath-taking Flying Displays included the U.S. Air Force’s F-16 and B-52 Stratofortress.


Over at the Static Aircraft Display Area, visitors were given the opportunities to get up-close and personal with the wide range of Commercial and Military Aircraft including a RSAF F-15SG. Other key highlights of the static aircraft display included the F-22 Stealth Aircraft, MV-22 VTOL Tiltrotors, and other Military Aircraft made their appearance at the Air Show. There were also a range of Business and Commercial Aircraft on display. Among them were the Gulfstream Aircraft, Textron Aviation Aircraft, and Embraer’s Next-Generation Narrow-body Jet – the E-190E2, nicknamed the "Profit Hunter". Additionally, the HondaJet, the fastest, highest-flying, quietest, and most fuel-efficient jet in its class. Furthermore, visitors had the opportunity to interact and receive autographs from the pilots from the RSAF, RTAF, TNI-AU and RMAF at the Meet-the-Pilots Sessions.

STATIC AIRCRAFT DISPLAY
With the Static Aircraft Display Area situated just beside the main exhibition halls and the rows of hospitality chalets, visitors easily viewed the impressive array of Advanced Avionics in Fighter Cockpits, toured the plush cabins of Luxury Jets, helicopters, and got inside the holds of transporter giants like A400M. At the 2020 Show, the Commercial and Military Aircraft on display included the Airbus A400M, Bell & Boeing Helicopters, Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky S-70B, Gulfstream G650, Textron Citation Jet, Lockheed Martin F-22 Rapter & F-16C, Elbit Systems’ Hermes 900 UAS and IAI’s Heron TP UAS, besides other aircraft and Defence Systems.


The RSAF also showcased 11 military assets, including a Black Knight F-16C aircraft. Other key highlights of the static aircraft display included  USAF F-22 Stealth Fighters and the Airbus A400M – a modern military transport plane using the latest fly-by-wire Flight Control System. Visitors also got to see luxury Business Jets from Dassault Aviation, Bombardier and Embraer, as well as Gulfstream’s G650ER on display, while new helicopters included a Bell, besides others. Static Displays included the Gulfstream and Dassault Aviation Business Jets; Honda Jet; RAAF P-8A Poseidon Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft.
